Home EIT Culture & Creativity signs EUR 6 million grant for its start-up phase!

The SUGA consortium will receive up to EUR 6 million to get EIT Culture & Creativity up and running until 2024.

The Start-Up Grant Agreement (SUGA) that will regulate the setting up phase of  EIT Culture & Creativity is now signed.  Fraunhofer Gesellschaft coordinates the consortium composed of 29 organisations  that will  cooperate under the SUGA to get  EIT Culture & Creativity, the ninth Knowledge Innovation Community (KIC) supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, set and running by 2024.

“We are incredibly proud to coordinate the SUGA consortium and lead this amazing group into the successful setting up of EIT Culture & Creativity. We are looking forward to contribute to the birth of this long-awaited KIC.”

The EUR 6 million allocation will be invested in creating a Knowledge Innovation Community that will foster competitiveness of cultural and creative industries and sectors (CCSI) and boost their ability to drive Europe’s digital, green, and social transformations. The SUGA period spans from 1 of October 2022 until the 31st December 2023.

Our goals and roadmaps are very clear: EIT Culture & Creativity is in the making and we are grateful for all people and organisations that have taken part of this processes. And for those who are eager to be involved, we see you and we are coming!”

The start-up phase’s main goal is to create the new legal entities, good governance structures, and internal initiatives that foster long-term financial sustainability plans while maintaining the public service mission. A total of 8 legal entities in 7 different EU countries will be related during this period. The KIC will also develop its Strategic Agenda until 2027 and will further elaborate its programmatic structure. Importantly, EIT Culture & Creativity will work hard to engage and nurture a vibrant community of innovators, from all corners of Europe.

About EIT Culture & Creativity

EIT Culture & Creativity is the ninth Innovation Community by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. It is designed to strengthen and transform Europe’s Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries (CCSI) by connecting creatives and organisations to Europe’s largest innovation network. It takes a holistic and open approach to innovation – from tech to artistic driven innovations, from business to citizen driven – and reinforces the appreciation and anchoring of European values and identities. EIT Culture & Creativity will unlock latent value from a multitude of small CCSI stakeholders through technology transfer, improved cross-sectoral collaboration and their effective integration in production value networks. EIT Culture & Creativity will support technology and business innovation; artistic innovation and social innovation. It will also harness the unique position of the CCSI to facilitate the Triple Transitions in Europe – green, digital and social.
